Histroic / Casas de Sao Francisco

The Alentejo, derived from Além-Tejo or Beyond the Tagus, covers almost a third of Portugal, from the south bank of the Tagus down to the Algarve, and from the Atlantic coast to the Spanish border in the east, but it’s home to just 7% of the country’s population, making it un-crowded and wildly beautiful.

The region is often overlooked for the better known area of the Algarve to the south but with its excellent transport links to the capital those wishing a quieter holiday will not be disappointed.

Easily accessed from Lisbon (with all the international transport facilities based there) the Alentejo is ideal for both Activity and Nature Tourism. The beauty of the landscape invites excursions on foot, on mountain bikes and on horseback, and the country lanes known as estradas municipais, despite the absence of cycle lanes, are excellent for cycling.

On the rivers, the reservoirs and the coast, many water-based activities are possible and catered for. The beaches are of the highest quality and the sky, with the fantastic climate, is ideal for parachuting, paragliding, ballooning and micro-light flights.

Casas de Sao Francisco is the perfect place to enjoy family leisure time in a complete safety and tranquillity. Located near the Alentejo coast (15 minutes drive from the magnificent beaches of Santo Andre), the resort is about an hour south of Lisbon. Consisting of thirty-three 1 to 4 bedroom terraced houses all with private gardens. There are well maintained communal gardens set in a large landscaped courtyard with the communal swimming pool. The houses are finished to a high standard (porcelain tiled floors) and well designed fully equipped kitchens. There is also pre-installation for air-conditioning (multi-split type) in all bedrooms and living rooms and each villa comes with solar energy for water heating.
